Tainan airbase, Taiwan. 8 & 10 August 2013
Today I spend some time along the airbase of Tainan, Taiwan, to take some photos of the rehearsals for the upcoming airshow this Saturday. It was Sunny and clear but very humid which resulted in a big vortex-spectacle. Here some quick edits from my "bring-along-laptop".

Wow, awesome shots! From where did you make these shots, have you been standing on the cemetery or anywhere else?

These are taken on the West side of the airbase between some farmer grounds. I was standing there with some 20 local spotters and had a great time. It is more to the middle of the runway. The cemetary is not recommended as this month is "Ghost Month" in Taiwan and they avoid these places. Realy!Wijgert IJlst wrote:Wow, awesome shots! Sounds great, nice spot indead! Wasn't aware you are able to stand there. No problems with shadowing/following agents or police officers? They can be a real pain in the ***... Have been mistaking them for spotters with their camera's...

No problems at all. Today I visited Gangshan and also there I had no visitors or strange faces.Wijgert IJlst wrote:Sounds great, nice spot indead! Wasn't aware you are able to stand there. Nope, made with a non-VR 300/f2.8 and a 1,4x converter.Basman wrote: Nice ones Peter! So you went to the other side of the water for a change?

Been in the country for 11 years already and the noodles and soups are no problem. This morning had a problem getting into the base with G en A. Never had so much problems before at an open house overhere. But finally we found a creative solution and managed to get in. Probably we were the only Westerners as I did not see anybody else.

Correct, I was also rejected access to the airshow as all foreigners were banned this year after some trouble with Chinese entering with fake ID's in recent years. From my side also a call from a Taiwanese friend could not help to change the view of the officer on duty. I headed back outside the base for some action shot, but the static alas was not for me this time.
Looking forward to your photos, as you were realy Lucky to get on!

Yeah, I would also mistake white Dutch people for Chinese...

Re: Tainan airbase, Taiwan. 8 August 2013
exactly what I told the Officer in charge. But considering the status between Taiwan and China I can understand why they exclude all foreigners and not only the Chinese. There was some talk about pre-registering for foreigners but even the Taiwan spotters I met blame politics for this. But hey, I got some very nice pics of Taiwanese aircraft so I am not complaining. Seeing the masses of people getting into the base it would not be a photographers delight and wonder if the static was to be photographed. Only bad thing I need to get back to Taiwan for the S-2T Tracker as there was one at the static.....Richard from Rotterdam wrote:Yeah, I would also mistake white Dutch people for Chinese...

With ropes a little tight round the aircraft and a lot of people around it.
