Dear all,

As you all should have noticed, Atcbox.com is extremely slow at the moment. Trust me when I say we're well aware of this problem, but unfortunately we cannot fix it directly.

To give you some background information: our website is flooded by botnets, trying to use this site for spamming activities. There are two ways of solving this:

1) block ip-blocks, meaning complete ranges of users cannot access the website anymore
2) Rate limiting, meaning the maximum number of connections to the website are lowered

The problem with 1) is, that we do not have a hardware firewall. This means the (virtual) server that runs Atcbox has to check every incoming connection and decide to allow it (or not).
This costs a LOT of resources that we do not have.
The second problem this gives, is that probably some of the real users will be blocked too, just because of being in the wrong ip-range.

So we chose 2). Unfortunately, this means the site is horribly slow. Yes, we are frustrated as well, but it's the only way we can keep the site up.

The problems we're facing are because of a bug in our forum software (phpbb). The logical question is, why we don't change the software then.

Well, we are working on it. It's not easy at all, lot of work and we'll manually have to transfer all users to the new software.
There is no software that will automatically do this for us.

So: at the moment this is the best we can do. We're working very very hard on the new site. However, this won't be fixed in a couple of days.
