2014 event visit suggestions
Hello everyone.
I will probably have the opportunity to visit only one (and non UK) event this year and i am not able yet to figure out which ones are more worth. I was thinking NATO days in Czech Ostrava but the 2013 participants list seems quite lesser than the 2012, if this year participants list would be similar to 2012 i would choose that. Other events that caught my attention so far but i have no clue about their participants and photographic potential, are the Roma international airshow, the Belgium Kleine-Brogel Open Days, Schleswig-Jagel Tiger Meet Spotterdays. I am fairly new to this , would appreciate any suggestions as to choose the best single destination for my 2014 aviation event visit.
Thank you
Nick D.

Obviously it depends entirely on what you like and wish to see and do. My top 3 for 2014 in Europe is as follows:
1) Ronneby airshow Sweden, June 1 (personal favourite country)
2) AIRE 75 Getafe, Madrid Spain, October 11 (Spain doesn't have many shows, so get it when you can)
3) Cazaux airshow France, June 22 (last chance to see flying military Skyhawks in Europe?)
But 10 other people will no doubt have 10 other lists.

That is very interesting though because i can know first hand what to expect from what i see in calendar where their websites have so far minimal or no information at all yet. Input definitely appreciated. What are your own subject priorities in general? Why sweden is favorite? What is expected at Ronneby ?

I don't want to spoil your day but as I understood the Skyhawks were grounded already sometime ago, even before the first M-346 was delivered. I hope that somebody can prove that I am wrong though!

Seriously? That's a bummer. Although I am a number cruncher and got most of them, that does indeed spoil it somewhat for me.... if true indeed.Paul van der Linden wrote:I don't want to spoil your day but as I understood the Skyhawks were grounded already sometime ago, even before the first M-346 was delivered.
Cazaux just got a little less interesting, although on the other hand Cazaux still has a lot to offer. A large number of based aircraft (Alpha Jets, CEV stuff and the Singaporean M346s) and past shows where also good visitor wise. Sweden to me is favourite because of the country, but also the planes. Swedish military stuff still does not travel abroad all that much so the best way to see it is to go there. Swedish shows are always packed with local planes (all types) and hardly any foreign participants. If you go for a large number of different countries it might not be the perfect option, if you wish to see Swedish stuff it is a must.squid wrote:That is very interesting though because i can know first hand what to expect from what i see in calendar where their websites have so far minimal or no information at all yet. Madrid is difficult to say something about, as there is not much known yet and there is hardly any past airshow to relate to. But, like I said, it is an opportunity that doesn't come very often, hence it is on my list.

Skyhawks stopped flying in the last quarter of 2012.

Ronneby also has good photo conditions from outside.

Re: 2014 event visit suggestions
my personal priorities about airshows are i'd say purely related with action photography criteria,
so
• as much as air activity as possible
• ease of access to close distance to the air activity
And since i am very fresh to this i am more interested in witnessing from close mainstream and popular types that i grew up (and more) seeing only through media (F-15, Hornet, A-10 (they left Europe recently i heard), Viggen, Fulcrum, Flankers, Frogfoots, Hinds, Fishbeds, Typhoon, Rafale, F-1, M2000, Tornado etc and DEFINITELY warbirds if possible
But basically the most important are photographic criteria: Good shows (eg Red Arrows, Swiss F-5s, Tricolori, F-16 Solos, etc), Good angles, Good or interesting weather, interesting or neutral environment, spotter-centric attitudes from organizers, close proximity, lots of afterburner, lots of low level pass, lots of contrails and compression effects, lots of flares, etc
