Question. I am planning a trip to Grosseto somewhere in the first two weeks of june. Does anyone have information about flying activities in this period? Tips & tricks are also much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Re: Grosseto (LIRS) - 2014
Hi all,
I'm staying close to Grosseto airport this week.
Today (Monday) so far no military flying activity between 8:00 and 13:30 local.
Does anyone know how much to expect for the rest of the week?
When are typical flying times in the morning and during the afternoon?

With the Aeronautica Militare Italiano, flying is unpredictable.
Best of luck and avoid the Carabineiri!.

Today I visited Grosseto. Unfortunately during my stay between 10.00 hours and 14.00 hours there was no flightactivity. Sad to say it was not worth the trip.

Hi,
When we were eating at a Pizzeria during the evening, Eurofighters took off between 20:30 and 20:45 hours local time.
They returned to base between 22:00 and 22:15 hours.
Normal daytime activity noted the following days, most often 8 Eurofighters in two waves.

Re: Grosseto (LIRS) - 2014
No activity between 10:00 - 14:00 !!
Oldschool , that's just oldschool spotting !! Some you win some you lose !!
Keep on trying , as the last guy said possibly they could be night flying
If so (and you have a decent scope ) you can read off the typhoons in the box shelters when open ( and hangar thru the windows ) from a discreet distance, the road behind is no longer good ( wall higher these days ).
Keep trying

@Custard Gannet Nice reply! You are absolutely right. Must have been the dissapointment yesterday.
I was able to read the serials of two eurofighters that were on the line. The boxshelters and hangar did not work out.

Hi
No problem. There are a couple of decent cheap hotels in the town ( the Appenine ... Is one ).
We usually pitch up there about 8 in the evening , check the boxes for any activity then have a few birras in the town .
Next day go to the base about 8-8:30 and dodge the carabinieri for a couple of hours, if they fly bingo !! If not move on to plan B !
Cheers Oldschool

Which days?
I saw this week on an evening 4 eurofighters on the platform.
Normaly (?) they operate from the boxes behind at the platform.

Re: Grosseto (LIRS) - 2014
The Ala14 Eurofighters arrived on Wednesday morning July 23rd.
That afternoon they flew a local mission (that's when I discovered them: unfortunately they landed from the North, so I could only catch them take off South where I was - landing Always took place from the South for nearly two weeks, except that afternoon...).
Departure on Thursday July 24th around 11:45.
Here are the numbers:
C16-50 11-30
C16-31 14-01
C16-35 14-02
C16-39 14-06
All the best,
Rob.
