EC-LTV (indeed swift air md-80) was operating flight dah5017 on 24/07/2014 acc. Fr24 database..

May to people who perished, rest in peace..

This is a very bad week for aviation :(

Twenty minutes ago, the Ouagadougou airport website announced that French forces from Mali (presumably the two figher acft sent on search) have discoverd the wreck of AH5017, halfway betwen Gao and Kidal in an inaccessible desert area.
The message is in French and contains a map.

According FR24, the aircraft involved was EC-LTV.

May I ask that the topic title can remain unchanged, unless really needed? This topic is not about the fact that the wreck is found, it is about the total incident/accident. Changing the topic title with every update will only make it confusing. Thanks.

The French Foreign Minister, Laurent Fabius, has revealed that the pilots of an airliner that crashed in Mali last Thursday had asked to turn back.

The plane's two flight data recorders have arrived in France.
The French investigators at the crash site were facing "extremely difficult conditions," Mr Fabius said
French, Malian and Dutch soldiers from a UN peacekeeping force (MINUSMA) have secured the site, about 80 km (50 miles) south of the Malian town of Gossi, near the Burkina Faso border.
