First: this topic is not really aviation related to parked here for the time being.geert wrote:Train, i guess.
Second: Do mind that it is 2.5 hrs at least from Schiphol to Leeuwarden by train (one way).

Yeah big apologies Ron, thanks for the info though
Re: Leeuwarden Air Show - how to get there
Car is probably a better idea. Certainly faster (taking the Afsluitdijk route - A7), as it will be less than two hours and Leeuwarden is always a very easy parking show as well. They close the highway along the airfield in both ways and use that as the carpark. So you literally only have to hit the brake, get out of the car and into the bus. Within a few minutes you're at the show.
Besides that, trains in the Netherlands are ridiculously expensive as well - 25 euro one way. So if you bring a mate, the train will cost you 100 euro return already! Rent a car for a day is probably less.

I would hire a car, and just follow the signs for "Parking".
They signpost it quite well, so no worries for getting lost.
Train is not an alternative, not really.
But if you wish, they use buses from the station to the show directly ....!

hi ,
if you know your flight's schedule, why not advertise that & try to hook up with a car owning dutch spotter from or passing by the Schiphol area? a wee bit cheaper, and unless you are unfriendely or smelly, a nice way getting to know the dutchies. Just politely ask here and see if anyone responds.

Re: Leeuwarden Air Show - how to get there
Unless they are working on the makeover of the Afsluitdijk during that period. Also, I've experienced traffic jams already starting midway on the dike on showdays in the 90s. Crossing the dike only (that is: reaching Kornwerderzand) took more than 2 hours. Then the bit of passing through Friesland just had to start. My advice: try to get over before Friday and find some accomodation somewhere in the vicinity of Leeuwarden.ehusmann wrote:Car is probably a better idea.
