De Amerikaanse luchtmacht heeft
vrijdag twaalf F-15-gevechtsvliegtuigen
en 350 manschappen naar IJsland en
Nederland gestuurd.Dat meldt de
Amerikaanse nieuwszender CNN.

Volgens CNN ondersteunen de Amerikanen
patrouillemissies van de NAVO in Europa
en trainen de piloten in Nederland.De
inzet hoort bij Operation Atlantic
Resolve,die de VS begon in 2014 nadat
Rusland de Krim had geannexeerd.

Het Amerikaanse leger had in IJsland
een luchtmachtbasis,maar die werd in
2006 ontmanteld.Sinds 2008 is de NAVO
verantwoordelijk voor de beveiliging
van het luchtruim van IJsland.
