Initial supporting tanker appears to have been KC-135R 59-1519 174ARS/IA-ANG RCH051, which departed with the 3 x F-35 and later recovered at homebase Sioux City (KSUX).
Fighters were using callsign NOW332A. Unusually, the tanker was assigned Uniform departure freqs (379.9 or 263.025).

Departure freq is typically 257.95 or 125.8. But 379.9 is quite common going North. As these left at 4:30 in the morning I am certain there were hardly any local area controllers so to use 379.9 makes sense.

House Appropriations Committee aims to boost FY19 F-35 purchases, adding 16 F-35s to the requested 77 for the US Armed forces, for a total of 93 aircraft.


The House Appropriations Committee today released the subcommittee draft of the fiscal year 2019 Defense Appropriations bill, which will be considered in subcommittee tomorrow. The legislation funds the Department of Defense – including operations, readiness activities, equipment modernization, and health and quality-of-life programs for our troops and military families.
