During today's Spotters Day scores of high step ladders were allowed in without any problems.

Searching and checking of the bags was done by regular military personnel,
not private security services...

They certainly did not "fanatically overdo" it, screening the bags was a relaxed affair, supported by a sniffer dog at times...
