Revisiting this old thread, I'm still bugged by the unidentified SH-3, the first in the list:

Firstly, I'm not convinced that "1_98__" is correct (on photos you can see some over-painting, so some room for interpretation). This identification only gives a choice of 4 airframes:-

149893 NF-006 SH-3G 61-158 HC-1 Written Off w/o 22oct73
149894 NE-612 SH-3H 61-160 309th AMARG Stored 17dec93 feb18
149895 NV SH-3A 61-163 HS-2 Written Off w/o 23may67
149898 SH-3H 61-167 to US DoS To Civil dec10 dec10 as N898WC

None of these appears to fit the bill so I suggest that the identification of "1_98__" is in error and other SH-3s are potential candidates.

Looking at Rafal's and Nigel's pics of the aircraft on the web, eg:-

... you can determine that:-

- The a/c appears to have been involved in an accident, rather than just struck off charge.
- The last unit was HS-10.
- The last modex had a zero in it. Possibly "0xx" but much more likely "x0x".

Note that the dump at Perkasie includes another SH-3 - 151548 - w/o as long ago as 24.10.74.

So with that additional infortmation, anybody able to identify the mystery bird?

Not that it helps to any great extent, but HS-10 only used two-digit modex for most of their Sea King days. Other than CAG bird 00, they were in the 30, 40, 50 series. I believe they did start using three-digit 7__ series mode in the mid 80s, again in the same 30, 40, 50 series.

If you look at the picture, you will see a window at the aft section in the red striping. I can not find this feature on any SH-3 model !

It's an A-model. SH-3A or perhaps an UH-3A/HH-3A. When HS-10 started using this color scheme (white, red stripe) all the navy Sea Kings were already converted to D- or H-models. Also it has no modex code on the fuselage and the one on the nose starts with a 0, not possible with HS-10. So my guess is it was a former preserved helicopter on base or at a museum. The partial serial visible (14)98__ is fake i guess.
