Ramstein Air base "The World's Greatest Airlift Wing"

Post by awacs »

Hi there,

After visiting Spangdahlem Air base I went to Ramtein Air base which is a 100 km distance. Arriving at 13.00hrs we first treated to four F16's from Spangdahlem who diverted because of bad wheather at Spang. Time ago when F16's touched the concrete at Ramstein;-). Catched some Montana, Georgia and Missouri Air National Guard c-130's, AFRC C-130's and of course some local C-130's. Worth the ride from Amsterdam!

Cheers,
Reinier

Reinier,
Diversions because of bad weather? Are you sure?
Your Spangdahlem images suggest otherwise.... :?

Which date did you visit Ramstein?
Pictures look pretty much like Saturday 22nd, but without the F-16s.

21st and the 22nd  F16's came in exactly 13.17hrs, diverted because of the strong winds and rain at Spang.

For a second I thought that C-130H was doing a wheelie at the platform... :-)

Nice pics, very familiar surroundings!

Familiar surroundings, that's for sure. However, this view does not look familiar... Could you provide approx. coordinates? Somewhere near runway end 26?

TIA!

And Robert, the coordinates where I shot the image of the C130's are 49.434409, 7.626293.

Thanks for that! Do you park your car at the main road, or take the 'Anlieger frei' roads to another point?

The asfhalt road to "Cold Stores" and the landing is private (military?), but other cars drive there too so you are not that suspicious. For a short peek in the weekend I never had troubles.
If you plan to stay longer for photo's it would be wiser to stay on the safe side and invest in the 15 minutes walk.
