Some fantastic info from Uni!!
We going to to Hyakuri show on the 2nd December,does Uni know if there will be shuttle buses on the airshow day from Mito?


I have tentative list for show!

18 Nov., JASDF Gifu: They will display F-4EJ 87-8409, which was retired on March 2018, with special marking of 2017.

24 Nov., JASDF Hamamatsu: Pre-open for the invitee(mainly disabled people) from 1200-1500, including the Blue Impulse flight.

25 Nov., JASDF Hamamatsu: You can not bring your step ladders into the base.

There will be NO shuttle bus from Mito this year !
Only one bus route will be available;
From JR Ishioka station 0600-1130, Single 800JPY, Return 1,600 JPY
From JASDF Hyakuri 1130-1530(will be prolong around 1630, I think), single 800 JPY

Trains from Mito to Ishioka (670 JPY）;
Mito 0437(Arr 0502), 0516(Arr. 0545)･･･.
Only 2 trains arrive at JR Ishioka before the shuttle bus starts...

1) Ohtake car park was filled already.
2) Some remains at Oh-arai Sun Beach car park.

Does this also apply to the Mito Station→Ibaraki Airport Express highway route (first bus 06.20)?
This can be found in the airport web page http://www.ibaraki-airport.net/en/access/bus/mito.html
According to Google Maps it's about a 5km walk from the Terminal to the Hyakuri AFB gate.

Yes, there are some buses from JR Mito bus station (in front of (next to) the railway station) to the Ibaraki Airport.
Time tabels are;
Mito bus station (No.4, 1,030 JPY) 0620(Arr. 0700), 0715(Arr.0755), 0826(Arr. 0906)
Mito bus station (No.6, from other bus stations, 1,130 JPY) 0820(Arr.0930)

Hi all

There are some shuttle buses from JR Ishioka station to Ibaraki airport, starts from 0632(Arr.0702, 620JPY).
It takes about 5km from airport to the base.

Some local buses around the Hyakuri airbase will be suspended on Dec.1 and 2, including JR Hashima
station to Ibaraki airport route.

Hi Uni San,

Thanks for the travel info! I probably take the train to Ishioka! and bus it from there!
I know an early start is needed having been to a couple of airshows in Japan previously!
Anyhow lets hope the weather cooperates!!

Hi all,
They will operate shuttle bus from JR Hamamatsu station to the base on 25 Nov., from 0730 to 1300.
It will cost 500 JPY/pearson/single, namely return ticket will be 1,000 JPY.

The bus stop is:
1) Go to the North side exit of JR Hamamatsu station.
2) Turn right(facing to East), go up to the 2nd. floor of the "Act city(a building's name)".
3) Then you'll find some information boards.

It has been possible to reach the preserved airframes near the north eastern gate during previous shows, so I would expect them to be accessible again this year.

Hi all,

About car park for Hyakuri Airshow(I heard);
The Peace park(or "Tower") area will open for car parking.
1 Dec. Open: 0200am to 0600am
2 Dec. Open: 0200am to 0600am

The Parking fee will be 1,500 JPY/person(not by car).
The traffic control will starts at 0600am.
After 0600am, you can not go to the area.(from the area to out-side is free).

One said to me, "usually Saturday is crowded but Sunday is not crowded at the "Peace Park(or "Tower")".
But there will be no car parking area this year, so I can't expect how much cars will come to the "Peace Park".

At least the bus service to Hyakuri from Ishioka for the show was fixed, compared to the mess in 2016. The buses had a different route in to the base, which mostly separated them from private cars, and it looked like the service started earlier than the arrival of the first north-bound train into Ishioka (I can’t comment on the first south-bound service, as that passes through Ishioka before the first south-bound service, which I was on). It looked like the after-show traffic was improved as well, with the road out of Ogawa towards Ishioka being clear instead of grid-locked after the afternoon flying finished. Not sure whether that was the result of better traffic management, or people leaving the show earlier given the absence of the Blue Impulse.

Uni, thank you very much for your helpful information throughout the year. As always, it was very useful for planning a trip to Japan.

Hi all,
To say about bus route from JR Ishioka station to Hyakuri airshow 2018
(from Japanese Blogs);

1) It took 40-90min. until bus ride at JR Ishioka station.(time 0500am-0930am)

2) It took 50-100 min. from JR Ishioka station to Hyakuri airbase(Dep. time 0600am-1000am)

3) They use about 100 shuttle buses for this route in this year.
Each buses were started in 5min..

4) The buses run in good condition, but there were hevy traffic jams around the base.
Most of the time were spent around the base.

Well, I think the shuttle buses run rather nice(not so bad) in 2018.
