@Patrick super report and pictures.
Pieter
Thanks! I have no idea which unit flies only D models but I liked it to see the oldies!;-).
After Iwakuni I realised I had a spare day….. All the visits went so smooth that I did not know were to go. Komatsu was an option but since I also like non fighter aircraft I decided to go to the Island of Shikoku, I think it is not visited often by spotters, the last time I visited it was 2002 and I did not remember the places. The navy has 2 training bases on the island. One with Beeches at Tokushima Airport and the other one with old SH-60's at Komatsushima Heliport. I visited both places and some wrecks and relics before and after it and the U-125 and Atsugu Beech were welcome visitors.
Here are the results:

Japan trip nov 2019, day 8. Komaki Airshow pics

Japan trip nov 2019, day 8. Komaki Airshow pics

This second saturday of my trip I visited the very very busy Komaki Airshow. After picking up a (well known) Taiwanese friend in a Love Hotel near Gifu we drove to the Komaki JASDF gate and as a miracle found a parking spot :-). When we we entered the base around 8 AM (with thousands of others) aircraft were already taking off for the opening of the show. In the distance we saw a Gifu F-4 taxiing with the most beautifull light and canopies open. Unfortunately the JASDF kept all of us waiting until the opening of the show at 8.30 (see first pic). At the time the 2 Herks and 767's passed over everybody was allowed to attack the platforms. Some people (older spotters) got injured while trying to behave like a younger by sprinting to a good spot on the taxi way.
After 9.30 the sun already turned to the other side of the runway and in the next 7 hours we moved to different spots on the other side of the base. It was a great day with the best weather you can imagine. At the end of the day we were very happy to see static aircraft leaving. The spot on the top off the museum floor is great for photography altough we were not allowed in we got in for a while.
After the show we visited the Kakamigahara Aerospace Museum near Gifu in the dark. It was a great day, I was very happy that I brought my "new" 600mm. I was doubting to bring it because I had to put my 200-400 in the Cargo Luggage (but it survived)
Gifu airshow is next!

Another nice selection.....did You notice a T-6 in any old HAZ’s near the stored T-3 (this can be viewed across from the civil terminal roof area).

Japan trip nov 2019, day 8. Komaki Airshow log

Alpha Kilo One wrote:Again..... Superb pictures. And you enjoyed only weather like this? Lucky man!
yep, Sunshine als every hour of the trip. I planned the Original trip in october but there was too much rain. For our 2018 trip the weather was not as good but we followed the sun and were also able to shoot all days with sun. No planning is my advice with all the trips and weeronline is your friend ;-). Rebuilding your rental to a motor home makes life very flexible ;-).

Here is the log of the Komaki Airshow (corrections are welcome). It was strange to see 3 Hercules that I saw fly a few year back stored. I do not know if they ordered J's. The Aichi Museum of Flight gave me my last YS.11 :-). The Zero inside is fake.

The last spotting day of my trip I spend on a hill south of Gifu Air Base. Since I brought my 600mm and I do not loke crowds I decided to try photography from here. I think the results are ok.

Japan trip nov 2019, day 9. Gifu Airshow log and 1 KIX pic

Thanks for all the nice comments and PM updates on my logs (especially JvD). The saturday published pics were the last pictures of this trip. It was the best trip in Japan so far for me with Sunshine every day and a lot of flying everywhere (and Southern wind in Iwakuni :-)). I like my Nikon 600mm 4.0 very very much and cant wait to use it again :-).
I still have to pay a parking ticket so I do not know if I can enter Japan again but there are enough other nice spot 2 go 2 in 2020!
I hope you liked the pics :-). I might try to publish my Argentina/Uruguay trip that I did with TvB two weeks before this Japan trip.

The last post is this log of the Gifu Airshow.
