Re: Nellis Red Flag 20-2
Not mentioned in the thread yet, but USN/USMC brought planes to Nellis as well.
VMFA-232 brought half a dozen jets, they flew Monday and Tuesday. Seen on the ramp, but not in the air (so far), EA-18Gs from VAQ-135 Black Ravens (including CAG bird).
Late this morning 3 F-5s from VMFT-401 flew in and launched in the middle of the afternoon strike, but they never came back, so I don't know if they are part of the Flag or were just passing through.
The BUFFs are here in full force, 10 on the ramp as mentioned. 4 were launched yesterday and another 4 today with the afternoon strikes. Yesterday they even made an overhead break coming back to the field, they were very impressive banking over the speedway.
Today the weather was poor-- heavy showers and ILS approaches in the morning. At one point somebody came on the radio and asked what the divert field was-- he got back a laconic one word answer, 'Edwards.' No flex take offs and when the strike returned everybody came straight in with no overheads breaks (4 Spanish Typhoons made an exception).

Re: Nellis Red Flag 20-2
VMFT-401 were gas-n-go only and went via SLC to Boise (ID) where they will stay 2 weeks. Hornets and Growlers are not there for RF.

Re: Nellis Red Flag 20-2
The Hornets (VMFA-232) and Growlers (VAQ-135 and which only arrived on Monday) are part of RF 20-2.
The Minot B-52s are the current Green Flag participants.

Re: Nellis Red Flag 20-2
If it is any consolation, 31+24 had only the German flag on the right side of its tail (EDIT: no marking on Tues, on Wednesday it was there--did they bring replacement stickers to Vegas?!!!). Every other Typhoon (that I saw) had the winged sword 'Boelcke' markings (ie TLG-31).Typhoon3030 wrote:[

There’s a rumor going around that flying is cancelled for Monday. Does anybody have more info or can confirm the rumor?
