Waalhaven 06.07.2020
Thinking about visiting Rotterdam before the last helicopters seem to be expected for tomorrow.
After I had no time catching them on their way to Eindhoven or Rotterdam, and as also going to Welschap each evening would have left gaps, I went there Monday but then studied the excellent reports here. Good descriptions of different locations, but mostly focused on taking pictures when they arrive.
Also I read the comments about reading off, or doing headcount only, which will become more and more difficult of course.
Studying Google Earth for high buildings I wonder whether Euromast is on one hand 'close enough' to at least see and count them, but the eastern container wall could kill this idea. Also I heard they are making the wall(s) hihger?!
In the North and closer than Euromast are 3 high buildings incl. the Science Tower. Giving a view to the storage area through the landing area?!
So, what would be the best spot(s) for the pragmatic approach to simply see and count them, any of the high buildings around? And can you generally move around normally in the habour and pear area, or will it be a cat and mouse game with the local companies?
Thanks in advance!
Martin

Thanks flyboy, will try those spots in case I give this a try.
The trip has some potential for failure and frustration if the count does not match ..... still undecided.

I did not, but saw pics of someone who did. You need a good binocular or scope.

The euromast has two levels, from the restaurant level the view is blocked by a building, you have to make the ride to the top. In that ride you have a fixed seat and the ride rotates. So pictures ok, scoop not. Not that you also have to make a reservation for which time you want to go.Custard Gannet wrote:Have you tried a look from Euromast ? Re: Waalhaven 06.07.2020
Just got back from the Euromast. You actually can "see" all rows from the platform (where you exit at the 5th floor).
From the North side of the platform, you can see everything, including the most left row, which contains (tonight's situation) the fourth CH-47.the other three are on the right side.
But unless you have a very good scope, with optimal conditions (mornings seem better with the sun from behind) , you cannot really count them.
So whether you can "count" them, is a different story

Also very happy to get out from our confinement , not a ideal encounter ... but you can’t always get what you want !!
5th floor = restaurant level ?

No, the restaurants are at lower levels, I think this was simply called 'the platform', the one at 112 meter.Custard Gannet wrote:

It is the €10.25 ticket, with which you can also go to the top in this turning thingy.

But still wondering who were in the Cessna (6 July, roughly at 20:15), which seemed to be specific interested in this part of the harbour

For those still planning to go to the Euromast to have a look at all the helicopters assembled in the Waalhaven, the Euromast is offering a 15% discount on tickets by using the discount code UITZICHT010. See https://euromast.nl/en/ticket-offer/ for more details.

Thanks for the info, sounds like a good opportunity. In the post of W&R it is mentioned a scope is not possible however, is it not allowed to bring such an item?Just got back from the Euromast. You actually can "see" all rows from the platform (where you exit at the 5th floor).

That is not what I said, if you go into to the top bit a scope is not very usefull as you rotated around the tower and have no fixed point.patrick dirksen wrote:Thanks for the info, sounds like a good opportunity. If you stay at the lower (112 meters observation) part, you can use a scope but the a/c are very packed together, also of one of rows you can only see tail ends, not the whole a/c
