@ Crizz, nice meeting with you ! your missing EA-6B is the 161881/AG-502 , 501 was up in the air, 503 you recorded and the 500 has the special tail. (was towed out later that day). Can you also check the Jordanian F-16's , you state 683 but I pictured the 682 yesterday morning, maybe a typo ?

Re: Aviano (LIPA) - 2011 MIL

Post by Sjoerd »

Seen during our summer holidays through Germany, Austria and Italy were the following aircraft. Most visits were brief and serial spotting only. Serials wich are underlined were not actually read.

Today I had the opportunity to visit Aviano AB, which in itself is a great experience. Great backdrop mountains, mostly good weather and a lot of flying! Despite 555th FS being away for operations in Afghanistan, still a lot of locals went airborne. The biggest treat however were the Jordanians and Prowler that took of in style. These are here for the ongoing operations over Libya. The early morning launches were photographed from treshold at the opposite flying direction. After the lauch it was time to head back for the runway 05 recoveries. Just in time for the RSV MB.339! The recoveries of the OUP aircraft were not recorded that morning/early afternoon.

Furthermore it was great meeting all the locals, especially Zero Otto and all the others I spoke too. I hope to get back again asap!

F-16D 555th FS: /AV (90-0800 or 90-0795, anyone?)

Can anyone help out with the missing serials? Especially the four Shaw F-16’s from the 55th FS (at least thats the sqn what the engine covers revealed proudly) that were parked on the central flightline of the 555th FS. I can exclude 91-0394 myself, and also the 91-0345/SW, 92-3904/SW, 92-3910/SW of the 77th FS were operating elsewhere.

All the Jordanians were all read and not assumed, as some others seemed to do. The sixth one was in the hangar, but not read due to heatwaves untill the next morning. Unless there are more than six F-16’s present, some of the other logs above might contain a mix up or wrong assumption of the serials. On three seperate occasions between 12-16th august I was able to read/photograph 674 (photoproof), 680, 682 (photoproof), 683 (photoproof), 684 (photoproof) and 685. I did not log 671 and 672 during my stay.

The next morning, on Saturday, I returned again for some early morning recoveries/take offs and early evening circumnavigating around the base looking for some extra serials. I found a great track along the northwestside of the base, which enabled me to read some extra locals.

Any help again with the missing serials is appreciated.

On our way to Austria we made a brief stop once again. I was just about to leave when two F-16’s went overhead. The locals we’re just airborne, so these had to be two SW-birds. And so they turned out to be!

Also, can anyone tell me where the MM7245 is located? I seemed to have missed this one and cannot find it in my pics of the base ( I shot from the mountain) either.

Any help again with the missing serials is appreciated! A PM is fine as well!

Today I overflew Aviano AFB in an airliner at about 11.45 LT. I did have a clear view on the base, where I saw several aircraft parked and 2 Aviano F16's hit the skies (I know these 2 were Aviano because I asked our pilot):
6 F16's parked in a line on one apron, 8 or 9 on another;
1 C17A (top of the center aprons);
1 KC135 (middle of the centre aprons);
1 P3C? (bottum of the centre aprons);
2 EA6B's?.

Maybe a long shot ... but you never know! So, does someone know if the SW F16's indeed were parked together on a seperate (part of) an apron (southside base) and maybe someone can help me with the other serials?

TIA!

Can anyone advise which 55th FS marked SW birds where present between 12/16 august?

Apart from 91-0394/SW I noted another 4 in that same period, but these were unreadable. I noted that 91-0389/SW (another 55th bird) arrived back from Grosseto the 18th. So I'm hoping that anyone else could tell me which ones I could have seen.

Cheers,
