Per a recent article in DefenseNews as of this year there will only be one F/A-18 UDP rotation to Japan at a time, ostensibly since there are now two permanently forward-deployed squadrons (-121 & -242) at Iwakuni. Perhaps this will change when -242 eventually relocates to Miramar.

VMFA-121 replaced the UDP squadron VMFA-115 in January, and VMFA-232 (now as sole UDP) swapped with VMFA(AW)-225 in March.

Updating this thread, VMFA-251 is returning to CONUS following its six-month UDP rotation to Japan, having been replaced by VMFA(AW)-533. Was being dragged eastbound 22 March 2018 by KC-135R 63-8014 Vinyl21 across US. ('Vinyl' is apparently a relatively new (for me at least) Coronet West tanker callsign.) The tanker is listed in database as belonging to 916ARW but recovered at MacDill so is thought to now be with 6AMW, as 916th is preparing for conversion to KC-46 and is parting with its KC-135s (although 6AMW is controlling wing for active associate unit (GSU) paired with 916th). The 6th AMW recently received additional KC-135Rs. (See also my post under 309th AMARG Movements 2017 (916th KC-135R transfered to 914th).)

Ground personnel arrived at Beaufort (KNBC) earlier on 14 March aboard Omni Air B767-224(ER) N225AX OAE372.

Last Monday (March 23) JEST 41 and JEST 51 flight departed from CONUS to Hickam AFB with
supporting KC-10s RUMMY 91 (83-0080) and RUMMY 01 (79-1946) departing from Travis AFB.

The fighters were identified as FA-18s, but no further details I am afraid.

It is UDP related, and the gonavy site should, in time provide details of this UDP changeover.

Twelve a/c of VMFA-115 already arrived for UDP two weeks ago.

VFA-204 departed with 10 jets last week, so might have been them. Don't think they are UDP related, time will tell.

The JEST Flights were VAQ-209 Growlers heading for Misawa.

VFA-204 final destination is Guam.
