It is possible that I missunderstood something about the legalities (I´m an aircraft maintenance engineer, not a pilot, I know the legalities of my profession, but I don´t know a lot about the pilot´s ones), but from what I understand the pilot had a licence, just that it wasn´t recognised by the Dutch authorities.
So the case is much different from the one of the pilot who flew with a forged licence.
In any case he has been released next day.
This is the last comment i will make concenring this case.

Thank you.

*edit*: after reading it several times I sure understood what it's sayin'. Thank you.
Stranded T33 stay few weeks to the ground ENSCHEDE - The Lockheed T33 who had to make an emergency landing Friday afternoon at the former Air Base Twenthe expected to remain there until the end of April to the ground. This is what a spokeswoman for the National Police Services (KLPD) yesterday afternoon said. The device must first be repaired before it gets fly worthy again. The T33 requires a new alternator. An American pilot will then fly it to Frankfurt. There the former military unit will be further revised. The 67-year-old British pilot who made the emergency landing, proved not to have a valid endorsement. He was fined (2000 euro).

I don't know about the legalities either, but thanks a lot for your detailed information on the backgrounds of last weeks events. :respect: It highlighted a lot about the European licensing system and the status of Twenthe airport that I did not know before. In case you are involved in the upcoming maintenance for the old lady, lots of success! Hope she can fly out gracefully. Could we ask you for the favor of informing us on this board when she is ready to leave? I know there would be quite a few spotters that would like to be present when she departs. Well, at least I would :P

@canberra;

I guess you are not a pilot. If you google those words you will find a lot about alternate airport requirements.

techlogsigner's claim that the weather was ''predicted ok'' does not coincide with his statement that all the German airports suddenly went IMC. This during a 20 minutes flight... There are strict rules concerning alternate airport planning. There should never be the chance that you don't have an suitable alternate airport. Let alone enough fuel to get there!

That was my question...

It wasn't about the fuel, the diversion was about batteries. You can plan for fuel, not for batteries about to die on you while in flight. And I am a pilot, if you need to ask. ;-)

Indeed. When the flight departed, it was able to fly IFR, but then the battery problem came up, restricting it to VFR flight. So combined with the weather, the only remaining option was to divert to Twente.

And that concludes our discussion in this topic, feel free to continue here. News (scheduled departure and the likes) is still welcome in this topic, of course.

I don't have news I'm afraid, just a request: is the bird visible from outside? I might get in the area before the end of April, and still need it :wink:

Last weekend I was in the neighbourhood but I didn't saw anything at this 'airport' so the T-33
might be parked somewhere inside...

It's parked in the first shelter at the leftside that is visible from the maingate.
When you walk into the field behind the maingate it's visible althought the left wingtip won't be visible.
