After V1, which is somewhere in the latter part of the takeoff roll, you're not supposed to abort a takeoff. If they would have, they'd have ended up on the A4 somewhere..
The EICAS message "tailskid" will probably have popped up on the flight deck, indicating to the crew what happened.

Good job Maarten: you also made it onto the AV Herald.
Good to see it ended well. This reminds me:
The other week I was at Flight Simulation Company at Schiphol Oost. Air Astana trains it's pilots there for the A320 family and their 767's. While at FSC I was shocked to learn that over 80% (!!) of their current pilots can not pass the COMPASS test!! The COMPASS test is a basic aptitude test that is used by many flight schools and airlines to check if a individual has the basic skills to become a pilot.
80%!

After a (possible) tailstrike there is a risk of aft pressure bulkhead damage, what may lead to a rapid decompression alt high altitude. Good decision from the crew to return.
Btw, what's "VOS"?
Odd. So you are saying Astana lets their pilots undertake this test áfter they are hired? Sounds like a monkey sandwich to me.Thermal wrote: While at FSC I was shocked to learn that over 80% (!!) of their current pilots can not pass the COMPASS test!! Re: AMS/EHAM/Schiphol/04-01-2012 Air Astana tailstrike
No unfortunately this is very real. This test has never been done by pilots who already were flying for Astana (it is not a mandatory test). When Astana bought Western planes they needed to implement Western standards and that is why they have introduced this test. To see how the skills and knowledge of their own pilots compare to Western standards. Apparently the're not there quite yet.Odd. So you are saying Astana lets their pilots undertake this test áfter they are hired? Sounds like a monkey sandwich to me.
But back to topic.
