Aviano is closed 24 December until 20 February....(that's what i call a winter break!)
I would say the NOTAM only applies to

24 December 2011
31 December 2011
2 January 2012
16 January 2012
18 February 2012
20 February 2012

Or I am reading it wrong?

Hmm that's also a way of reading. Which sounds more logical ;-)

Correct Stefan, the last part (24 DEC 07:00 2011 UNTIL 20 FEB 21:00 2012) only refers to the time frame in which the Notam is valid.

Ok, that sounds great! So, I'm repeating the question then, is there any experience from the last years when there is some flying between christmas and new year? Might go there Wednesday 28th of December...

Last year we all were unlucky the day 30. I leave close to Aviano and they always fly during xmas time (except for the 24-25-26-31-1). But here you never know.... some days they go off....
So, unfortunately, no one can assure you that they will fly the day you come.

Last year they flew all the days working days except day 30.

Hi all!

Can anyone of the locals let me know today's activity level? Is there a lot of flying or has it been very quiet?

Best regards,
g.

Hello, today I was at Aviano. From 09.30L
to 12.30L about 35 takeoffs of F-16.
No visitor in the morning

Bye
