The last one I visited before the F-104 bowed out from Dutch service. 312 sq was the last to fly the one-o-four and had various jets zapped with comic characters, e.g. D-8051 being Snoopy.
Not only that... also Spotting Group Volkel took care of some zapping :-)

PS: Formally UFO flew the final Dutch 104s, not 312sq.

That's the spirit, Stefan, although the location of the zaps suggest cooperation from the squadron.
Of course, you are right about UFO (Uitfaseringsonderdeel = Phasing Out Unit). UFO even had its own badge, however, I saw this only once having been applied to an F-104.

Here the formation of the last 5 KLu Starfighters during their farewell flight over Holland. All wearing the red UFO badges. Sad they are gone....

Seeing all these awesome pics of 104's makes me realize that I didn't miss too many occassions where 104's where involved as being Twenthe and Hopsten were my home bases... I hope to find some time soon to scan 104-slides taken back from the moment I took photography more seriously in 1982. Until that moment I am really enjoying what will be published here :-)

Well done and don't stop posting!!!

Cheers Jeroen

Thanks Jeroen!
Some more from me, this time focussing on the Photocall at Volkel on 20 October 1982. At the time, 306 sq flew the RF-104G in the tactical recce role, examplified by this bird:

Image

Besides, there was the CAV (Conversie Aanvals Vlucht = Strike Conversion Flight), holding most if not all of the TF-104G duals.

CAV also had a few single seaters, a.o. this one:

I thought I remembered CAV to mean Conversie Afdeling Volkel. When searching the web for an answer I found the following meanings:

Conversie Afdeling Volkel (Conversion Department Volkel)
Conversie All-weather Vlucht (Conversion All-Weather Flight)
Conversie Aanvals Vlucht (Conversion Strike Flight)

Did it change over the years or are two of these wrong?

Hi Marcel,

I know of all those translations and as far as I remember, they were used simultaneously. I always sort of favoured the "Conversie Aanvals Vlucht", as it seems to be the most credible to me.
Any old SGV hand (Stefan?, Paul?) to shine a light on this one?

CAV stood for Conversion all-weather vlucht. One more shot of D-8048 from the same day, after lining up:

And a shot (a bit soft.. I admit) from 20+01 prior to the shot that Hans Heemskerk took of it at Nörvench

Thanks for clearing that one up, Stefan!

Grappig, for decades I thought (and heard others say) Conversie Afdeling Volkel. Even some KLu staff (mistakenly, apparently)..
