Found this one of Dimitri at Zhukovsky in the MAPO MiG-29 in my collection.

It is hard to look at it and think of all the fun we had together, fighting russians in East Germany, running around Moscow, BBQ's at his parents place, Dimitri being on my wedding and trying all the 30 sorts of Whiskey available.. :D

He will be missed....

Een bijzonder méns, een bijzondere spótter is niet meer....

Mede namens het bestuur van de SGHK, wil ik mijn medeleven betuigen
aan de familie Schmidt met het verlies van hun zoon en broer.

Dimitri heeft zich véle jaren, op diverse posten, ingezet voor de
vereniging. De laatste functie die Dimitri vervulde was die van
redactielid maar jarenlang is hij ook voorzitter geweest.

Wij wensen de familie érg veel sterkte met dit enorme verlies

Na terugkeer van een korte vakantie lees ik het schokkende nieuws. Hoewel ik me natuurlijk altijd bewust ben geweest van Dimitri's aanwezigheid in de spotterswereld, heb ik alleen in 'de vroege jaren' echt contact met hem gehad, meestal bij Soesterberg. Ik zal me hem herinneren zoals hij toen op me overkwam: superfanatiek en geen discussie schuwend, maar tegelijk sociaal ontvankelijk en waardering hebbend voor ook de kleinere spottersbuit. Als ik de commentaren zo lees, is hij in al die jaren niet zoveel veranderd, en dat is goed.

Nu ineens een veel te vroeg einde... Ik wens al Dimitri's naasten heel veel sterkte, en dat er nog maar veel mooie herinneringen hier en elders mogen verschijnen.

Ik was niets vermoedend op de "spotters archive soesterberg" van de scramble site (photo forum) aan het lezen.Tot mijn ontzetting las ik dat Dimitri is overleden.

Mijn oprechte deelneming voor Chris en zijn ouders.

Ja ja, ik weet dat de kwaliteit niet best is, maar dat was het weer toen ook niet :lol:

Dit is Valkenburg, december 1990. Vriezende kou, aan het eind van de middag. De Amerikaanse heli's voor het opscheppen.

That can't be right. I can remember this bet very well (and the consequence), but I have been to Luxeuil only once: 28 May 1992. I think that is the correct date.
