Re: Thunderflash and Thunderstreak Photo Topic
Very nice, Rob. You do good work! I wish I had the opportunity to photograph the THK Thunderstreaks that were at Incirlik AB when I was stationed there, but it wasn't possible due to security. I'm sure you know this was also the case at all USAF bases stateside, and one of the reasons you see so few photos of aircraft such as the "tall-tail" B-52 series. You just couldn't go near the flightline with a camera.

Tom,
There must be some number of pictures of ex-Dutch Streaks with Turkish markings leaving Eindhoven to Turkey after their duty in the Royal Netherlands Air Force. I think Hans has some, I will search in my collection for these.
The same for the ex-Dutch T-birds that went to Turkey. But that is of course not 'the real thing' like watching Turkish Streak operating from Incirlik AB. I envy you for being stationed there and see those ex-Dutch birds flying around.

On October 14th , 1965 I observed 11 Dutch Streaks parked in front of the Eindhoven traffic control tower , Turkish markings applied to them. Nearest in the row was P-110 and as far as I know this is the only one of which a picture exists.Javindo50 wrote: There must be some number of pictures of ex-Dutch Streaks with Turkish markings leaving Eindhoven to Turkey after their duty in the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The 84s left Eindhoven for Turkey on October 18th , 1965 .
The magazine COCKPIT of November 1965 (page 521) has a small news-item on this subject , which I sent in.

Re: Thunderflash and Thunderstreak Photo Topic
Hey, too much talk, too little pictures
Bought a new printer and it turns out it scans as well (Canon MP620). So I decided to scan some F-84F prints from my collection.
P-243, 312 sqn vlb Volkel at a dispersal, waiting for things to come, sometime between 1963 and 1966. Colors are not because the scanner is ==censored== but the original slide or the print (which is over 20 yrs old as well).
RH inner pylontank removed, fuel-hose being handled.
P-266, 315 sqn, air to air from the MLM-collection (given to me some 10 years ago).
P-182 and P-254, 314 sqn and P-194 and P-174, 315 sqn, also from the MLM-collection. P-194 was my dad's assigned Streak between 1963 and 1966 at 311 sqn (as a crew-chief).
Enjoy, Mickey

Very nice old color shots, Mickey, I enjoyed seeing them.
A couple of Thunderflashes here
A shot of 52-7432 at Gulfport, MS., summer, 1966. I always tried to avoid using Tri-X film because it was too grainey for aircraft photos. But it was very popular with the public, and at times, like this day, it was all that was available.
This shot is from an old Kodacolor negative I just scanned for the first time. I'm very pleased with the results, showing 53-7549 at Bradley Field, CT on 16 May 1965.
At the time these photos were taken, both of Alabama's ANG squadrons (106TRS and 160TRS) were flying RF-84F Thunderflashes, and I don't recall which of the two squadrons operated the RFs in the photos. Super Sabre on the left is an F-100A of the 118 FIS, CT ANG.

It didn't matter where you put the intakes, that was one handsome warplane. Great shot, Hans!
Anyone know if they were supersonic in a dive?

I am not sure , but I don't think so : at least I myself never saw or heard them flying through the sound-barrier...tomh wrote: Anyone know if they were supersonic in a dive?
I also like your contributions to this topic , Tom : of course we are always inclined to ask for more ........
By the way : these pictures of mine were taken during the Royal Flush Reconnaissance Competition at Deelen AB , the Netherlands in May of 1970.

Re: Thunderflash and Thunderstreak Photo Topic
Hi Martin,
Twenthe wasn't a Thunderstreak-base, in 1968 306 squadron and the Dutch Masters were based there with Starfighters. 315 was based at Eindhoven then and was the OCU for the eighty-four. That's why you see the instructor hanging from the cockpit on the LH-side. Therefore, my guess would be this picture was shot at Eindhoven.
Thanks for posting this splendid picture of P-194
