Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

Re: Batajnica show 2012 (pics)
Wonderful shots ...
This has been my first airshow visit ever (i hope i will visit much more from now on) and i have some questions
1. What is your equipment, mainly lenses you used
2. I see that some (if not many) action pictures are probably taken in close distance, if that is so, how you manage to separate from the crowds and get that close to the flightline, and runways?
3. How did you get to the base and how did you depart ?
4. How you deal with heat haze ? I saw pics that are obviously taken from a distance and engage ground but there's no heat haze or blur ...
Myself i was stuck during the whole show behind a tall fence struggling for a spot amongst the crowds glued on the fence. If i stepped back to eg get some water i would have to "fight" back for a spot. I also didnt want to risk walking further to explore possible other better spots, as i arrived rather late (i wasn't alone and i was totally ignorant of the area and situation) and i would be missing the action which was continuous while checking for other spots (also i was exhausted from 10 hours bus trip to belgrade arriving 2 am the previous night and 4-5 km walk under the sun from the batajnica village . (where we got squeezed in the crowd of belgrade city train)
My equipment so far is a D90 with the 18-200 VR. Didnt had enough time to do proper homework so made various mistakes like to put the VR on active mode which i found out later blurs pics even with high shutter speeds (its intended for moving platforms) Also i read afterwards that VR in general tends to blur pics with 1/500+ speeds . Shooting behind the fence ofcourse was like focus russian roulette and interfered also in the focused pics softening the subject, adding noise, and smudging it. Unfortunately i couldn't make the trip earlier so i missed the Saturday (which i was told was crowds-free). I thought at some points that at least i had great panning opportunities from where i was standing, but the heat blur+Active VR mode+Fence = not a single clear picture @ full size. (i am fairly stable holder at 1/60-1/125) So, i realised besides much better preparation planing and execution (how to get and when and find much better spots) i need more reach than 200mm to get the shots i have in mind ...
Some of the ...snapshots i managed to salvage (i havent find time to go through the whole material yet), croping, resizing, PP .... https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dm4pa1p7iapqg29/M-MB3iSl8t
