Interesting video on this site. The Mirages don't have AAR missiles but the Rafales do. Does any one else seem that is odd? I cant imagine that there is much of a threat but still you never know

In Amenas escalating.
The hijacking of the the Algerian LNG production plant is escalating by Mali type hostility.
The Algerian defence forces performed an helicopter attack of the plant yesterday by Mi-8/17 and equipped helos to retake the plant.
Hostages from at least 7 countries still in plant (UK, US, Ireland, France, Norway, Japanese etc).
Special Forces on the way to be involve.
This means a coming lot of flight activity.
US has Special Forces in Senegal as the different French Forces in Mali etc.
Algerian actions without communications with different involved countries.

Second Belgian C130H is CH-08. It arrived in Abidjan (from Chad) on Wednesday evening.Laurent wrote:Well technically both are already in place.Bruno G wrote:Belgium sends two C. 130 for logistical support ...
.One is already in place!
Good job!
This afternoon CH-03 departed (loaded with spares and chaff/flare supplies) for Solenzara, Corsica. Tomorrow it continues towards Chad, there it will be joined by the second C130 (which is already in Chad). From there both aircraft will continue for Abidjan (Ivory Coast) and Bamako (Mali).
In addition Belgium will deploy two A109 Medevac aircraft into the theatre of operations.

Troops 'killed' in Algeria ambush
At least 11 soldiers have been killed in an ambush by alleged Islamic fighters, local media has reported.
According to El Watan newspaper, the soldiers were killed when their convoy was attacked in the Tipaza province of western Algeria on Wednesday.
The paper said the convoy was first hit by roadside bombs, after which gunmen opened fire with automatic weapons.
Algerian officials have not yet confirmed the reports.
Algeria has been fighting an insurgency for nearly two decades.
Violence has increased in the past two months, with 18 paramilitary police killed in an ambush in east Algeria in June.

Helicopters is the key in further hostilities.

Undated footage on Al Jazeera shows 62nd AW C-17A 09-9211 departing here plus 07-7171 on the ground(this one should be from 3rd AS,436th AW).

Forty Belgian troops and two Agusta Medevac helicopters leave for Mali
Forty Belgian troops left Melsbroek Military Airport bound for Mali on Sunday morning 27 January 2013. After a stopover in an unspecified country they will be deployed operating two Belgian Army Medical Corp Agusta A190 helicopters that are being sent to Mali as part of Operation Serval.
They will join the three Belgian soldiers already in Mali. The Belgians will be based in the Malian capital Bamako.
The two helicopters (registrations H-30 and H-39) left Melsbroek for Mali aboard a Russian Ilyushin 76 transport plane today (29/01). The exact location of where the helicopters will be based has yet to be confirmed.
The helicopters will be used to fly the wounded to hospitals and medical posts and consequently will be deployed as close to the front as is practically possible.
