Re: Luchtmachtdagen/Airforcedays 14/15 June 2013 Volkel
Having missed out on the Thursday and Friday due to work commitments, I was glad to have been there on the Saturday.
Highlights for me; the Viggen, the Su.22 pair (awesome!!) and the F-16/Hunter/Meteor formation. The last time that was seen in Dutch skies was in 1979, you know, that formation that also included an F-104. RAMEX Delta caused great memories to Voltige Victor and such from the past.
Static; the Estonians, i.e. the An.2 and L.39 made me very happy, as did the coloured tails from Leeuwarden.
Great effort by all involved, cheers to them all!
Hans.

Thats a good one k2g, me too!
Left after the ap demo, on sat. no problems of traffic at all.
And watched the show outside ....
As for the rest of the LMD, had a great time, with great friends and great aircraft, and made really nice pic's.
The ONLY downside for me was the half hour of rain on saturday, but hey, that's Holland....

Friday, I had a great day, with many highlights. Estonians, Greeks, SU-22's, RAMEX Delta, many special coloured a/c, all those classic jets, Anson, DH-89... Glood weather, no traffic problems. No complaints, or.... The Air Power demo was a bit low profile, and all those vehicles riding on the static taxiway. 100 years of mil. aviation, but not a single plane seen from the pre-ww2 era...a pity. But over all, a great show, my compliments to the organixers!. And the airshow comments: keep on going!

I liked the show(was there on saturday), but one thing I really don't understand... We were standing about 15 ft behind the fence(static line) watching and photographing the airplanes. And then there are those spotters/photographers who think they are there alone and stand in front of you with their ladders, blocking our view completely !!!! To those, please keep in mind that there are people behind you who also like to watch the show!!!! At one time there was a complete wall of people on their step-ladders. Not to take a pic of a static aircraft, I don't have problems with that, but standing there all the time...

Re: Luchtmachtdagen/Airforcedays 14/15 June 2013 Volkel
My opinion is that is was a very good show:
- public transport was perfect, within 5 minutes I could catch a bus to and from the airbase (from/to Oss). It was announced very clearly to try to take public transport instead of taking your own car. Traveling with your own car means you take a calculated risk of running into a traffic cue. So traffic jam is nothing to blame the organisation but anyone who decided to take the risk.
- good facilities on the airfield, food, toilet etc.
- wide variety of aircraft, I cannot remember an airshow in Western Europe with simultanuous Polish, Czech, Slowak, Hungarian and Romanian participation
- add to that the rare participation of the Estonian Air Force and the Greek A-7s, plus some other aircraft which are absolutely not common on shows like the German Navy Lynx. Participation of aircraft of most European countries (which is, what you can expect). Four (!) display teams...clearly noted by the number of "new" aircraft.
- and the fact that more aircraft showed up in pairs. I noticed a trend the last years from air forces to send one EF2000, one Rafale etc. Now there were a couple of duos and trios.
- large participation of own AF. there are quite come airshows where the local stuff is hardly seen when a lot of international aircraft are on the airshow and vice versa.
- nice variety in the airshow of displays (including KLM 737
This all sums up to a very good airshow. Nothing to add or comment. I think the organisation did an extremely good job to arrange such a good airshow with such interesting participation in these times, where other air force organisers hardly can but a decent airshow together. And with superb logisitcs. When you go to an airshow you know you will be not alone and everybody wants to see something different, but the mix which was presented made this day interesting for both the general public as well as the die hard aviation freaks. Chapeau!!!

I totally agree with you Snipes!!! Had the same problem..... those guys were standing in front at the fence on ladders.... one of them kicked a young child when he tried to reach the fence. I could not stop myself to push him off that ladder and told him that the people behind have the right to see aircraft too.... if you take a picture, all right.... but standing on the ladders the whole time it makes me
Despite this... the show was good and I really enjoy the whole saturday with my family. That's what counts

I said it before but can't be said enough. The Italian guest commentator was the best overall. If there was an award for best commentator during the show, he is the one to get it.11E wrote:Mad Viper wrote: That's good if you hate the commentators (which really need to be sent with retirement with there faults).
I loved the commentator from Frecce Tricolore, it sounded like Captain Alberto Bertorelli from Allo Allo. I first thought it was a joke from a Dutch commentator

Of course these aircraft have easily survived and escaped from the Nazis that brought them to Berlin during WWII (to be bombed overthere or being transported even further away).Lex Nasa wrote:but not a single plane seen from the pre-ww2 era...a pity.

Re: Luchtmachtdagen/Airforcedays 14/15 June 2013 Volkel
Fortunately everybody makes mistakes. It is easy to talk about all the things they didn't say correct, but I would like see everybody who is crying about these mistakes to do the commentary for themselfs without a single mistake. It is very hard to do the commentary for so many people. And without small mistakes is almost undoable.ten thije wrote:You weren't. Did you also notice that the regular announcer several times said "Patrouille Fra...Swiss" and once just said "Patrouille France" without bothering to correct himself. For the Germans he even mentioned the "Wehrmacht" instead of Luftwaffe or Bundeswehr.
Don't make a big problem because of a couple small mistakes. The important thing to remember is that they were enthousiastic about the airshow and I enjoyed it very much. The weather was nice and there were a lot of nice people.

Erik

Re: Luchtmachtdagen/Airforcedays 14/15 June 2013 Volkel
yes it were small mistakes, but they kept making them. He wanted to qoute Churchill and his famous words "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few", he F-ed it up, I know that some sporadic commentating can result into that. But when you don't know it right now why would you try and F it up. Myself wouldn't probably get it right without first googling it, but hey that is a easy task with internet at hand in the commentating booth? I could remember during the commentating in the morning that they know that they are irritating to some. And he takes his joy from that I guess. Other mistake was that the Orange Jumper was the Dutch F-16 Display, heard it 3 times during the display?! Ok if it was his first time, and first time the Dutch demo I would forgive him. But how many years is the J-015 already orange and our Display F-16? And the BBMF Spitfire attending was a Merlin powered one?
And unfortunately they do multiple airshows, last year at De Kooy I heard mr Cocheret say that the Tiger Moth had 2 engines, with 50 metres away a Tiger Moth in take-off.
I agree mistakes can be made, but coupled with the wrong irritating enthusiasm (in my opinion) and in their eyes aviation experts, they are terrible commentators. It was a relief to be walking at the stands, cause then you couldn't hear them. Please, find a Dutch equivalent of the Italian commentator, or perhaps more, cause that's the commentating I want. Happy, full of energy so that the party is complete.
You're probably right, but they cannot express that enthusiasm the right way to a lot of people, especially the aviation enthusiast?! Every year they think they are at a Kuifje Fan day. The "High Kuifje content" comment is a comment that doesn't speak to me when seeing a aircraft in action. The important thing to remember is that they were enthousiastic about the airshow and I enjoyed it very much.

Re: Luchtmachtdagen/Airforcedays 14/15 June 2013 Volkel
Well, it was a little bit disapointing to hear that the 2 man are back, after the change in commentators in 2011 with the introduction of `miss D´, our female Cougar-pilot.
Mistakes are easily made, I am totally aware of that and it could happen to everyone. Even this post is not in perfect English, though?
It is how they are dealing theirselves with their mistakes. If one made a mistake the other corrected him with at least 25 dB more. And if they made a joke it is a little bit irritating that you laugh yourself. And why screaming `hallo, hallo`that loud?
I know that doing the commentary on an airshow is a difficult job and that we as members of this forum know more about airplanes than the average visitor. But even my girlfriend (representing the average visitor) asked me seriously of the 2 people were consuming alcohol.
For me it is totally unclear what the MoD wants to point out with these 2 men, due to the fact that even the commentary on the DVD´s (given out of the KLu) is sometimes wrong. On the 2007-DVD was told that the pilot from the EF-18 has to pull and push on the stick of the airplane a lot to performe the slow flight. On the 2008-DVD was told by the EF-18 demo that the pilot tells the computer (also strange, maybe the EF-18 has more than we think) that he want to perform the slowflight and thats it, so no hard work on the stick of the plane.
Is there no correction of the commentary? Also to find out of `secrets` are released?
With the cutbacks on the MoD and by BAD it is maybe a good idea to decide that only Klu-personell itself can do the commentary (I can not believe these 2 are doing this for free).
`miss D´ was already better on EHLW, have heard her Friday but her voice-quality was not that good (although it did not scares me of, absolutely not), hopefully better on the Saturday.
The mistake of using `Wehrmacht` was a little shame to our German visitors given the fact that they have sent their Phantom.
And because the last words will be rembered the best: It was a really good show, well organized and I have seen planes flying which I have never seen flying before, good job! Many thanks to the organisation!

Re: Luchtmachtdagen/Airforcedays 14/15 June 2013 Volkel
Having heard Do both on Friday and Saturday during the Air Power Demo, I think her voice might not have made it if she had to do the commentary for the complete show on both days.
And if some class the Wehrmacht mention as a small mistake, I think they have a big problem in understanding history. The absolute minimum we (the Dutch, I mean) should do is to offer official apologies from the King to Bundespräsident Gauck. It is ==censored== ==censored== UN-FOR-GIVE-ABLE!!!
To close this off for the moment: As both Kwaak and Blaat are pilots themselves (still bemoan Kwaak survived that aircraft crash on his way to Oshkoss a few years ago, just to be releaved from having to bear him at shows), messing up the planform and profile of a wing should have had the Inspection withdrawing their licences even before @DonaldDuckNL declared the weekend to be started.

Yeah, it should be called Luftwaffe.
From personal experience with German troops, they don't fxxking care and make jokes about it themself
