My problem > I have a lot of old(from the 50s & 60s) 60x60mm, 60x120mm negs and slides.
I use an "old" Canon-8600 for these:

It is working through thick plexiglass, not bad for "home-use", but...
I decided to buy a new one, but there are no too many scanners on the market with capability for 6x6, 6x12

The fellow on the right has a cousin here in the states. He shows up very early at almost every airshow, and just as the photographer is about to take a nice clean picture of a jet, he walks up to the intake and starts gazing inside. It's enough to drive you to drink.

This guy in your picture appears to be doing a FOD check, so he's working for a living.

The very moment the primary "job" of that guy was > to cover the photo-ops, to check where was the political-officer on the flight-line. One blink to the inlet, one to the flight-line

Even with 6X6 negs, commercial development in the States often resulted in grainy images, such as the one below. Only when I resumed developing my own negs did I get the quality that I wanted

It was available everywhere behind the Iron-Curtain, there were no better film on the market in the 70s in WP countries.
ORWO colour slide-films quality was reasonable...b&w negs were more grainy than Western products.
I have many Ilford negs, few Kodak, but most of my collection are on ORWO films.

These are on "Made in USSR" negative, from 1963:







This Soviet film was not so bad, the problem was the variable standard.

Robert, I don't have many overall flightline photos. When I was younger I was always concentrating on individual aircraft. But you are right, they are very interesting photos. For instance, those USAF Grumman SA-16s Albatross' on the line look gray, a c/s more common with the US Navy. I never saw one like that.

This shot may interest you. It's the kind of photo I had in the collection and never appreciated because I was unable to get out on the unit's fightline that day. But, a photo that shows almost an entire squadron of
C-121 Constellations is more interesting today...
