Hi all,

In addition to the by now well known fighters of this TLP, the following could be seen on departure day of this very last ( :@(: ) Belgian edition. All numbers quick and dirty from the back of my camera:

H36 A109
FA123 F-16AM n.mks. (testflight Sabca?)
741 C-130H HAF
752 C-130H HAF sp.mks.
2507 An-26 CzAF sp.mks.
014 C295M PolAF
MM..../46-57 C-130J-30 AMI
T.21-13/35-51 C295M EdA
128/62-IK CN235M-200 AdlA

And the following locals:
FA109/FS, FA117/FS, FA98, FA71/FS, FB17/FS + 1x F-16BM behind towtruck to other side

At about 15.30, the crew of the French Casa was the one to turn the lights out....Now let's hope for next years out-of-area TLP to come to Florennes!

PC-7 Pilotenrekrute A-938 Y17:20
PC-7 Pilotenrekrute A-935 Y17:25
PC-7 Pilotenrekrute A-919 Y17:30
(these ten aircraft formed the Swiss Air Force “PC-7 Team”)

(notes: As I wanted to make sure not to miss neither the last TLP mission taking place from Florennes nor any participating aircraft leaving the final TLP flying course in Belgium, I opted to spend the last three days of this TLP session at my favourite airbase. Luckily, the weather was rather good on the first day and allowed for a full TLP mission to be flown, including no less than seven supporting helicopters – a A.109, two Bo.105s, two Mi-24 and two HH-3s. The last TLP mass-launch at Florennes therefore comprised almost 40 participating aircraft – a worthy good-bye to the TLP host base of the last 18 years!
The second day was less successful: Quite contrary to previous forecasts, the weather stayed very bad for most of the day, forcing almost all TLP aircraft to stay on the ground. Nice exception where the two HH-3s and the two Italian F-16s departing back home, supported by a brand-new C-27J. Also very welcome was the arrival of two supporting Greek C-130s and a visit of a French TBM.700. Six sorties of local F-16s completed this small day log.
The next day’s perfect early summer weather allowed to enjoy departures of the remaining 37 (!) TLP participating aircraft and movements of seven support aircraft. Many departures featured impressive take-offs, e. g. Spanish EF.2000s performing kind of a roll immediately after take-off or ultra-flat departures of the Italian Tornados. Some aircraft also performed a formation flypast after take-off, including a four-ship of Dutch F-16s.
Then it was time for me too, to say good-bye to 20 years of continiuos observation of the TLP, more than half of my life-span so far. As if trying to make something good, fortune led me to pass the former Belgian Army airbase Merzbrück on my regular way back home, exactly when a Swiss PC-7s left a line of ten examples present here. After leaving the highway, I was able to watch all ten PC-7s in action as every single aircraft had to taxy to the other side of the airbase for refuelling. That’s it - good-bye, TLP)

Well, the weather was not always the main reason for cancellation.
As you can read from the excellent logs of Mysteryship, a couple of missions were planned, had departed but were cancelled mid-air due to some problems with ATC or shortage of tankers.
These things can happen in all countries, including Spain.

Re: 17 June TLP Farewell Party

Post by Richard de Florennes »

according to my information, no flying activity of visiting aircraft, just a flyby of 4 to 6 based F-16s. Some aircraft representing the TLP member nations will arrive during the two days before and leave during the day after the event. No further info available from my sources, but any addition would be welcome!

I don't think so, the weather at Florennes and this part of Europe is to bad.
Just nine completed missions this edition

Well, the weather was not always the main reason for cancellation.
As you can read from the excellent logs of Mysteryship, a couple of missions were planned, had departed but were cancelled mid-air due to some problems with ATC or shortage of tankers.
These things can happen in all countries, including Spain.
If I remember well, out-of-area TLP's haven't always been held in sunny places. Weren't Kinloss and Karup between them as well? So after TLP's with almost 100% great weather for most of the time at Albacete, an event with less favourable circumstances might be interesting as well....and Florennes still has got all the infrastructure left.
