Wauw great pics on that rainbow Bert!! I like the contrasts and the difference of light and dark below and above the rainbows!! Well done!
Here is one nice pack of clouds that came overhead Stockholm yesterday evening, I like the pattern:
#1
EXIF: KM7D, 28-100@28mm, P-mode, ISO100, f11, 1/1250, +/- 0 exposure
#2 Close-up
EXIF: KM7D, 28-100@60mm, P-mode, ISO100, f9, 1/1600, +/- 0 exposure
keep on taking those photos!!!!

I'd rather depict atmosphere and the 'heat of the moment' making a catchy photo than to reflect the real situation and real colours showing a boring photo.

I saw so many good pictures of lightning that I decided to try that one time. Well this night it looked like fireworks, but it was almost all behind the clouds. So a lot of lighteffects, but no lightning...
1 The first picture is blurred, because my tripod wouldn't stand still in the gusts of wind.
2 Then it started to rain, so I went inside my car and made some pictures through the windshield...
3 A "big one", not photoshopped, just resized.
4 Same picture, but with levels set darker.
5 Same picture, but -130% contrast. It almost looks like daytime, but it was 01:19 local time!
6 Same picture, but levels set to "the edge of darkness".
7 Same picture, but now with saturation set to maximum...

Meunings...

Are you kidding? If I were to suggest one set of circumstances where automatic exposure obviously won't work, it probably would be a thunderstorm in the middle of the night...Heron wrote:Automatic exposure in the middle of the night and even with photoshop I can't get an acceptable picture out of it

What four words, Jimmy!?!
Very nice pics in this topic!!
I've got some too...
A Cumulonimbus (rain/thundercloud) at sunset near De kooy:
Beautifull colored clouds at sunrise:
Thundercloud above sea:
Instability as it should always be :
rather big cumulonimbus...
notice the Apache flying under it...
**
None of the pictures are edited. I used to shoot in Jpeg only back in the old days (haha).

Well... I saw so many lightflashes (it almost looked like Baghdad in '91) that I decided to let the camera sort that out. If I went with a too long exposure it would certainly over-expose when a BIG flash came; so I thought: I go for automatic, that will be no more than 30 seconds and when I get a big one, the camera will shut down by itselfMeunings...Are you kidding? Exif for that picture with big strike is:
shooting date/time: 01-09-2008 01:19:39
shooting mode: AE
shutter speed: 30
aperture value: 6,3
ISO speed: 200
focal length: 18
white balance: auto
AF mode: manual focusing
Next time I try different settings. As it is, you could say "I was fumbling in the dark"
