Indeed.

MPS will take its place the next day, to return from XMN on may 3rd. By then we should know what MPQ's fate will be.

So MP is already reduced to 2 operational 747s.
Will be difficult for them !

Well, KLM is also parking two of their 74Y's. So code- and planesharing i guess in case of the 747Y's. No word by the way of the use of the MD-11 (C)F's :mrgreen:

Plane sharing would be strange,
Why would you park two brand new KLM 747ERFs, and continue to fly with two VERY old Martinair converted freighters.

Pff, not THAT old. They have about 60-some thousand hours on them. That's about half of what's on MP's 767's. The 744 is certified to fly up to 160.000 hours, so plenty of life left in them.

AMSTELVEEL - KLM halveert de capaciteit van de vrachtvloot als gevolg van de wereldwijde economische crisis. In een column in het personeelsblad Wolkenridder schrijft KLM-topman Peter Hartman dat zowel bij KLM als Martinair twee Boeing 747-400 Freighters aan de grond worden gezet. De vloot van KLM Cargo bestaat uit vier vrachtjumbo’s.


Martinair Cargo vliegt eveneens met vier Boeing 747-400 Freighters, maar beschikt daarnaast over een vloot van zeven MD-11’s. Over die toestellen schrijft Hartman in zijn column niet.

Per wanneer de vliegtuigen aan de grond worden gehouden is niet duidelijk. KLM laat vrijdag (27 februari) tegenover Luchtvaartnieuws.nl weten dat het nog niet inhoudelijk op de plannen wil ingaan.

Het internationale luchtvrachtvervoer is de laatste maanden bezig aan een vrije val. Brancheorganisatie IATA maakte donderdag bekend dat de hoeveelheid vervoerde vracht in januari met ruim 23 procent is afgenomen ten opzichte van een jaar eerder.
Reading above , it is certainly sure that both KL and MP are grounding / parking two of their 747Y's due to the recession ( which means that the age of the frames doesn't bother at all :mrgreen: )

They both send 2 744 Freigters to the dessert for temporary storage.
76-er, you said before that 2 of the 4 744MP's would go back to the lessor, that seems to be incorrect?

The "merged" their freight departments. Its impossible to send 4 MP 744's to the dessert and continue flying with the 4 Kl 744's. I dont think that Mp'744 -flyers (and the VNV) will acccept that...

Not incorrect but outdated.

To return two BCF's to lessor was a first option.
Current status for both BCF's will be 'parked' as will be the status for both KLM 74F's AFAIK.

More news regarding 'parked' aircraft will follow aprox 3Q 2009.

It appears canceling the leasecontract turned out to be a bit too expensive..

The MPP and MPQ did they return to lessor or parked by MP for the time being for activiation when the market is improving or gone "forever"?

PH-CKA is parked at SPL-oost to be prepared for storage somewhere warm and dry...

Yes, I read it but I also heard at EHAM that they were still owned by MP, probably the normal rumour circuit.

the CKA stays with KLM but just parked?
