S5 - S4 - S3 - S2 - S1 - SF - F1 - F2 - F3 - F4 - F5
Om uit te vinden op welk punt je hobby thuishoort op deze schaal moet je de volgende hypothetische vraag naar eer en geweten beantwoorden. Deze vraag heeft ooit model gestaan voor een enquete op MSF, die is uitgevoerd in september 1999. De exacte vraagstelling luidde:

Picture yourself out near an airbase all by yourself, and you see a very
special aircraft coming in for landing. You have just one chance during
landing on which you can either read the serialnumber of with your
binoculars or shoot a picture of the aircraft without a readable serial

Als je voor het eerste antwoord kiest ben je een S5, kies je voor het tweede antwoord ben je S4 enz enz. Bij het middelste anwoord ben je SF (SF = Sience Fiction, zulke mensen bestaan niet), en daarna loopt de schaal op van F1 tot F5. De schaal geeft niet aan hoe fanatiek je bent in je hobbies, alleen welk van de twee hobbies belangrijker voor je is.
