Flight aborted as Kuwait plane engine catches fire

A Kuwait Airways pilot aborted a flight after one of the engines on his plane caught fire. A Kuwait Airways passenger plane was forced to return to Cairo International Airport on Tuesday evening after its right-hand engine caught fire.

The Airbus, carrying 223 passengers, was allowed by maintenance teams to leave the airport for Kuwait but its pilot detected the technical failure half an hour after departure so he decided to return, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

He made the decision although the fire was automatically extinguished, sources said, confirming that all passengers and crew members were safe.

Firefighters and rescue teams of the airport were put on high alert for the aircraft and it landed safely.
