BTW According to UKAR FRIAT has asked its members not to publish the FRIAT updates at public websites before it goes public at the public part of the show's own website. Well, we'll see...airtattoo.com/airshow wrote:Air Tattoo organizers have announced the themes for the Royal International Air Tattoo 2011 which takes place on 16 and 17 July at RAF Fairford. Themes include the 40th Anniversary of the Air Tattoo, the 50th Anniversary of the NATO Tiger Association and the operational theme STAR 11.
Join in the celebrations as the Air Tattoo reaches a remarkable milestone. First staged at North Weald airfield in 1971 with just over 100 aircraft taking part, it has rapidly developed to become one of the UK's premier outdoor events. During its long history the Air Tattoo has hosted aircraft from some 51 countries and it is hoped that participants from the past will once again take part in the 40th Anniversary.
The Air Tattoo reinforces its strong links with NATO by hosting a celebration marking the 50th Anniversary of the NATO Tiger Association. Visitors to the Air Tattoo 2011 will be amazed by breathtaking colour and beauty as Tiger squadrons are invited to participate with displays of gloriously decorated aircraft celebrating 50 years of this most significant association.
STAR 11 (Strike, Attack and Reconnaissance) has been chosen as the Air Tattoo 2011 operational theme to reflect the ongoing multi-national operations in Afghanistan and elsewhere across the globe. With modern warfare becoming increasingly demanding and commanders needing a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of the battlefield before engagement, ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) will form an integral part of STAR 11. Visitors to the Air Tattoo 2011 will see the latest in satellite communications, swing-role fast jets, UAV's and battlefield helicopters.

RIAT is mentioned at team viper's site as they will be there. Don't know if it is flying or static.

Team Viper will be in the flying display with 5 Hawker Hunters, including the gorgeous Raspberry Ripple XE601 which, might I add, produces a fabulous blue note!aviodromefriend wrote:RIAT is mentioned at team viper's site as they will be there. Don't know if it is flying or static.
Also worthy of interest, it seems the Romanian Air Force, Royal Air Force of Oman and the Belgiums have confirmed. Presumably the Romanian MiG 21 and Belgium F-16 demos and Omani C-130/A-320?

Not true, pure speculation on the UKAR messageboard, because RIAT announced that three countries have already confurmed, one from the middle east, one from the former Warsaw pact and one western Europe. Thereupon the spaculation started.Kieran wrote:Also worthy of interest, it seems the Romanian Air Force, Royal Air Force of Oman and the Belgiums have confirmed. Re: RIAT July 16 and 17 2011 RAF Fairford - Participants
http://www.airtattoo.com/airshow/Newsro ... -TEAM-LIST
The RAF's legendary Red Arrows heads a list of spectacular aerobatic display teams preparing to take part in the world's largest military airshow this summer.
They will join Team Viper, the Breitling Jet Team and the Breitling Wingwalkers in helping celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on July 16-17.
Enthusiasts in particular will be pleased to see Team Viper, who will be making their Air Tattoo debut in July. The team, flying supersonic Hawker Hunter jets, will fly as a five-ship formation for the first time this season.
The barnstorming Breitling Wingwalkers, based at Rendcomb in Gloucestershire, are the world's only formation wingwalking team. Four Boeing Stearman aircraft display a breathtaking sequence of loops, rolls and turns while wingwalkers wave and perform handstands against 150mph wind pressure. Based in Dijon, France, the Breitling Jet Team's only UK appearance this year will be at the Air Tattoo. The team, which was founded in 2003, comprises seven L-39 Albatros Jets flown by civilian pilots.
Deputy Director of Air Operations Rob Windsor said: "The Air Tattoo is renowned for featuring a wonderfully diverse range of aerobatic display teams and this year will be no different. The Hawker Hunters flown by Team Viper form an important part of the airshow's history as the aircraft's 25th anniversary was the first ever 'theme' celebrated by the Air Tattoo, for its 1976 event. The Red Arrows' have supported the Air Tattoo for many years and were based at RAF Fairford at one time. Jacque Bothelin, who created the Breitling Jet team has been a good friend of the Air Tattoo for many years and we shall look forward to welcoming him back in July. As for the wingwalkers, their hi-energy, barnstorming displays never cease to please the crowds!"
In addition to celebrating its 40th anniversary, this summer's Air Tattoo will host a gathering of specially-decorated 'Tiger' aircraft from the NATO Tiger Association. 'Tiger' aircraft come from NATO squadrons that have a Tiger or Big Cat in their emblem and their association marks its 50th anniversary in 2011. The 'operational' spotlight STAR 11 will focus on aircraft and equipment involved in the roles of Strike and Reconnaissance.

One of the FRIAT members at UKAR couldn't keep his mouth (or ticking fingers) shut up, so the knowledge the Turkish F-16 display will be at RIAT is now more known then wished by the organisers.

It's now official (although maybe sooner than they wanted...)
