HAF Open days 5-8 Nov 2010

The annual open day program was announced in the official HAF site.

Visit hours to all bases will be 09:00-17:00 for Nov 5,6 and 7 and 13:00-17:00 for Nov 8.
Note that access to Tatoi AFB (where the HAF museum is located) will only be allowed after 12:00 on Nov 6.

On Nov 7 at 12:30 there will be a solo display of an F-16Blk52+!!!
This is definitely something new for the HAF open Day. Considering that HAF is also celebrating 80 years from its establishment, we would like to see a special paint solo Demo but who knows...

Can we expect local flying operations on Friday 5th and Monday 8th? for example Araxos?

I do not expect that there will be any flying on Friday.
HAF generally does not fly on Fridays exept rare ocasions, it is maintenance day. Most of the exchange aircraft will move from one base to another on Thursday.
It is almost certain though that there will be normal flying operations on Monday.

Last year, Kalamata, Araxos and Andravida were flying (but not a lot) on friday. I know only of these three bases because that were the ones visited on the friday. There was a lot of flying at Larissa and Nea Anchialos on Monday. In all, a lot of aircraft were seen.

However, taking pictures of operational flying activities (as opposed to the aircraft parked in the static display) was a different story altogether. Andravida was OK, but Araxos and Nea were and Larissa was OK until the base commander arrived .

Remember, though, this was before the financial crisis hit Greece (and Greek government spending) in full; it might well be that operational flying is more curtailed this year.

Don't expect operational flights on Monday (8.11.2010) either...8th of November is the main celebration day, Archangel Michael's feast who is the Protector of Hellenic Air Force! ...so no flights on Friday/Monday...

Also...there is no special painted f-16 blk52+ for the Demo Solo flight!

Also, it is good to remember that this weekend has the Open Days of the Hellenic AIR FORCE ONLY. So, Megara (ARMY) and Kotroni (NAVY) will NOT be open.
