15 May Cambrai-Niergnies NATO Tigers Airshow

NTA 50th Anniversary

Nato Tiger Association
There will be three major events in 2011 as we celebrate the NATO Tiger Association's 50th Anniversary.

First, we expect delivery of our 50th Anniversary Book in March (See separate article on how to order).
Second, we have our annual Tiger Meet in Cambrai-Epinoy AB, France on 9-20 May.
Plans call for an airshow at Cambrai-Niergnies AB on the middle weekend.

Third, Our 50th Anniversary will be a featured theme at the Royal International Air Tattoo, RAF Fairford, 16/17 July.
Highlights by me.
Calling Niegnies an airbase might give a false impression btw.

Any proposal to use Cambrai-Niergnies for an airshow is highly unlikely, the operational runway is quoted as being only 2,953 feet available.

The field was upgraded as a NATO reserve base in the 1950s,but the base was abandoned by the military in 1967.

The only things you need for an airshow is a place to stow the public and some sort of a display line. Seems to me Cambrai-Niergnies suits the job. Of course the aircraft will fly from Cambrai airbase.

Spacedust is correct. Roughly same formula as Sanicole. Fast jets will stage from the big Cambrai. The squadrons will no doubt have lot's of new souvenirs for sale to mark the occasion. Initial Planning Conference (IPC) for the 2011 Tiger Meet will be held on Sunday, 10 Oct at Volkel. No info yet on 2011 spotters day.

The REAL downside of Niergnies of course being that -given the available runway length- there will be no (operational) fast jets on static display :( (unless they find a Tiger Harrier somewhere  ).

True, but a static would be unphotographable anyway.
Better set your sights on display shots, plenty of examples around here and much more fun to attempt. And of course,, there meay be a spotters day at Cambrai to solve this problem.
I only hope we won't have to be facing into the sun which I am afraid we will have to looking at aerial images on Google Earth.

Tip: Next time just go to the relevant line at http://www.scramble.nl/showdates.htm and click on the underlined country code
(to name just one way to do it).

Hi efa,

The coordinates given by Jaap are correct! What you see in the Google Maps picture IS the CIVIL airfield of Cambrai, Cambrai-Niergnies. It is located to the southeast of Cambrai town, whereas Cambrai-Epinoy -home of EC1/12- is located to the west of the city. This (Cambrai-Niergnies) is the location for the NTM Airshow. Niergnies used to be a military satellite of Cambrai-Epinoy (hence the dispersals), but it was closed as such in the 1960's. The long main runway (running approximately north/south, 15/33) is no longer in use, but a small section of the east/west 08/26 runway is (check the part with asphalt and the "piano keys"), as is a grass airstrip immediately south of the 08/26. Therefore, it's no airbase or airport, but just a small airfield with light aircraft flying from it. It has a Fouga Magister as a "gate guard"; you can see it located north of the E/W runway near the buildings of the Aeroclub.

Hello everyone I wanted to go to Cambrai spotter. I have no radio. I wanted to know, the scramble for position on the map. Then the number 2, I can not find it from google earth, I do not see the road. Where I have to stop, where do I put the car? Do you have the coordinates, there is a small street? Where is I do not see it.then the number 3, you should put the car at the WWI memorial. I stay there to take pictures, or I get close to the base? Not having the radio, which generally landing number 2 or number 3. Thanks to all

I'm a bit confused now: is there an airshow during the weekend planned or is it just the three spottersdays during the week? (don't seem to find any information about an airshow).
