20-07 I visited Jever to shoot some phantoms. In the moring the 2 QRA's left followed by 4 other phantoms.
In the afternoon there was no activity on the base, only some passing fighters and a trauma heli.
Unfortunally the A-4's did not fly at all.

I think you mean Wittmund!!

Because Jever is flying with the Tornado.

But still a beautifull plane....we are gone miss them...

Nope, it was 100% Jever, JG71 is relocated at Jever due to maintenance at Wittmund.

ps
Jever has no flying units, so they are not flying with tornado's. Normally most F-4F's and Tornado's that fly to Jever never leave because they are scrapped (accept for the ones that come there for maintenance).

Henk,

Jever is NOT flying tornado's the base is a scrapping base these days (for some years now).
The F4F are on Jever because of runway repairs.

Nice pictures. But I see that they fly with their refueling receptable open..... Not a common sight I believe.

I agree, very nice!
As a matter of fact F-4s most of the time land with their refuelling receptacles open :wink:

German F-4F's land with their receptable open to vent the fuel lines upon touch down. Normally, F-4's vent the fuel overpressure from the rear of the plane, spraying fuel fumes over the parachute. While at the TLP, a Luftwaffe pilot told me that this was not only bad for the chutes but also bad for the crews handling the chutes so the Luftwaffe changed their procedures to land with the refueling receptable open as an alternatve venting mechanism.

If you look at the landing shots of QF-4s or old photos of USAF / USN / USMC F-4s, you won't see them with their receptable open. The same with HAF and THK Phantoms - so it really seems to be a specific Luftwaffe procedure.
