My pictures of 1998, part 1: London-Heathrow 28-02-1998

Post by LifelinerOne »

Hello everybody,

I've been busy with other things in the last few months, but recently I've continued my scanning proces. 1998 was a very busy year with visits to Heathrow, Dusseldorf, Paris, Lisbon, Frankfurt, Madrid, Fairford and of course Schiphol. To give some better impressions, I decided to make several topics for your convenience. First on is an impression of my visit to LHR in February.

I flew to LHR with KLM, which used a B747-300 for the short hop thanks to the cancellation of earlier flights. Nice surprise! Spotting was done from the now closed Queens Building, which had great views on the procedings at the airport. Now on to the planes!

BA was in the progress of repainting it's fleet into the new World Tails-livery. This Boeing 747-400 of British Asia Airways was still in the Landor-livery:

BWIA was still around with those retro-looking TriStars:

BA B777 with World Tail:

BA A320 with World Tail:

Classic BA Jumbo touching down:

VARIG was also still flying and had this nice colorscheme:

Good looking B737 from Virgin Express:

Brand new in those days was this Saudi B747-400:

Virgin had a rather dull colorscheme in those days, as presented by this A340. Note the "No way BA/AA" sticker:

Elegant A340 of Air Canada touching down:

Classic Boeing 737 from Air Algerie:

American Airlines also used their A300's for routes to the UK:

Very nice catch was this SAS B767 in the Star Alliance-scheme:

Always a pleasure to see Air India with that nice colorscheme:

Just one to admire the classic lines of the Landor scheme:

Emirates was a new and small airline in those days:
