Nationaal Militair Museum Soesterberg
Not sure where to post this but I hope it fits here. Yesterday was the presentation of the plans of the new Military Museum at Soesterberg (NMM - Nationaal Militair Museum). It will be build on the place where the former hangars of the Chinooks and Cougargs are situated. The building will be around 100x250 meter. Both the Legermuseum and the Militaire Luchtvaart Museum will move to the new museum. More on it here
Some visuals of the new museum, remember it's still an artist impressions so the end result might be different from these images.

Re: Nationaal Militair Museum Soesterberg

Re: Nationaal Militair Museum Soesterberg
Wow,
This looks impressive. Plans suggest that the intentions are very ambitious but also will give the Dutch Military (Aviation) History an appropriate and fitting accomodation. In other words, I hope this plan will become reality. A DBFMO contract has been awarded to a consortium, which implies that it will be a semi-commercial operation (I assume) and opening is scheduled for the end of 2014. (DBFMO = Design Build Finance Maintain and Operate)
Regards, Humphrey

Here is an explaination in Dutch about the way the finance it. Its some kind of lease. PPS = publiek, private samenwerking.Humphrey Redskin wrote:Wow,
Is there already an idea how and by who the required 160 million Euro's will be provided. Has this been addressed in the presentation yesterday?

Re: Nationaal Militair Museum Soesterberg
The exhibits look very clinical to me, plane/tank/vehicle with a sign in front with some text and thats it.
If starting a museum from the ground up, make exhibitions with a specific setting, a plane in a dispersal in a cold war setting, a Hunter/P-51 etc in a Dutch Indies setting or a tank/AFV in a Bosnia/Iraq/A-stan diorama which gives you an idea how the equipment was used.
An example with a vehicle in the USMC museum; http://0.tqn.com/d/dc/1/7/G/h/tank2.jpg.

lesley

Op
http://www.nederlandseluchtvaart.nl/for ... ndex2.html
