German ICAO location indicators

Post by Bennie »

Can anyone tell me when the German ICAO codes changed after the reunification? For instance, when did EDAR become ETAR? I presume these changes for all airports took place at the same date?

Looking forward to your answers!!

EDAR is not the same as ETAR, airfields in germany with ET are military (maybe even american military or ex military),.
EDAR is Pratswitz
ETAR is Ramstein.

Hi,

If I remember correctly the ET prefix was for the former DDR. After the reunification in 1990 all military airfields in the reunited Germany were redesignated with an ET__ code while all the civil airports received an ED__ code.
