Additional Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft for Qatar
Qatar has confirmed the purchase of an additional 12 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, bringing its total order to 36.
The deal, which aligns with Qatar’s continued investment in advanced defense capabilities, supports its national security strategy and strengthens its relationship with the UK, as the aircraft are produced by BAE Systems in collaboration with European partners. This follows Qatar’s initial 24 Typhoon jets order signed earlier as part of a broader military procurement programme.
Next to the Typhoon, the Al-Quwwat Al-Jawiyyah Al-Amiriyyah Al-Qatariyyah (QEAF, Qatar Emiri Air Force) operates a mixed fleet of modern fighter aircraft, like the Dassault Rafale DQ/EQ (36) and the Boeing F-15QA Davanced Eagle, locally known as 'Ababil' (48 plus 36 options).
Qatar is yet to place the order, but the commitment brings relief to BAE Systems, following concerns over the lack of workload at its Warton facility in Lancashire, North England.
