On 19 June 2023, two USAF Boeing B-52H Stratofortresses from the 23rd Bomb Squadron Barons, part of the 5th Bomb Wing, arrived at Kualanamu International Airport near Medan, North Sumatra (Indonesia).
Making a first in history, Air Force Global Strike Command's B-52Hs, normally based at Minot AFB (ND), flew some seven hours, from Andersen AFB (Guam) before entering Indonesian airspace. During mid-June, four B-Stratofortresses and some 200 airmen assigned to the 23rd Bomb Squadron arrived at Andersen in order to conduct Bomber Task Force (BTF) missions.
USAF BTF deployments and operations support US Indo-Pacific Command’s missions by integrating strategic bomber capabilities in a joint and coalition environment.
The following MT coded B-52Hs are now deployed to the Indo-Pacific area of operations: 60-0007, 60-0029, 0034 (FY 60 or 61) and an unknown example.
