Brazil reveals preserved AMX at Santa Cruz

The A-1, as the AMX is called in Brazil, was first delivered to the Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB, Brazilian Air Force) on 17 October 1989.

Currently, an upgrade programme is running to modernise the avionics. Some of the earlier airframes are being preserved as monuments.

One of the most significant ones was revealed on 20 November 2020 just in front of the huge Zepellin hangar at Santa Cruz Air Base, West of Rio de Janeiro. The base was home to 1°/16°GAv 'Adelphi' that was the first unit to operate the type.

This A-1, serial 5514, sits next to some other illustrious FAB types like the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt and the Grumman S-2 Tracker.
