On 5 May 2023, the 706th Fighter Squadron "Cajuns" was officially redesignated as the 706th Aggressor Squadron.
The 706th AGRS is part of the 926th Wing at Nellis AFB (NV), where it oversees Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) fighter pilots supporting the United States Air Force Warfare Center (USAFWC) as an associate of the 57th Wing.
Flying most of time with F-16 Fighting Falcons, as Nellis’ third aggressor squadron, the 706th’s mission focuses on continuing to know, teach, and replicate fourth-generation aggressor air adversaries.
The shift in mission set allows the 64th and 65th Aggressor Squadrons to pursue the next generation of Air Defence and Nellis’ aspirations towards becoming the 5th Fighter Generation Center of Excellence.
The 706th AGRS is one of four aggressor squadrons in the USAF to own fighter aircraft. By the end of this year, they’ll receive their fleet of F-16 Block 30s to accomplish their dedicated mission.
The 706th Fighter Squadron’s flying operations moved from Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans (hence the nickname Cajuns) to Nellis AFB in 2007 and is assigned to the 926th Operations Group. They also perform operations test and evaluation and tactics development with the 57th Wing at Nellis and the 53rd Wing at Eglin AFB (FL) for aircraft including the F-16C/D Fighting Falcon, F-22A Raptor and A-10C Thunderbolt II.
