Canadian Spitfire to be restored

For many years three of the exhibits at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum of Mount Hope, near Hamilton International Airport (ONT) were there on loan from Ingenium in Ottawa.

This scientific museum has now decided to donate these three aircraft to the CWHM. The planes concerned are AVRO CF-100 Canuck Mk5 RCAF 18785 (c/n 685), North American Sabre Mk6 RCAF 23651 (c/n 1441) in Golden Hawks colours and Vickers Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVIe TE214 (CBAF.IX.4424).

On 10 January 1963, the Spitfire was officially taken on strength by the RCAF as TE214. In 1966, it was transferred to the Canadian National Aeronautical Collection (now Canada Aviation and Space Museum) and was refinished as aircraft DN-T of 416 "City of Oshawa" Squadron RCAF. It was initially put on display at the Canadian War Museum, then went to the Western Canada Aviation Museum on loan in 1988. The Spitfire has been on loan to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum since April 1997. The best news is that the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum has announced that TE214 will be restored to airworthy condition!
