Chinese fleet expansion

On 23 April, the first Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) Type 075 amphibious assault ship was officially handed over to the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) after operational trials.

During the ceremony in Sanya on the island of Hainan at least six Z-8CJ Assault/transport helicopters were on the deck, although it is believed that up to 30 helicopters can be carried.

The ship is named Hainan and has the pennant number 31 and is believed to have a full load displacement of 40,000 tons. The ship was launched in 25 September 2019.

A second Type 075 is currently undergoing sea trials and a third is nearing completion.
