Contract awarded for Egyptian Air Force Chinooks
On 3 January 2023, the US Army has awarded Boeing a contract for the production of twelve CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift transport helicopters for the Al Quwwat Al Jawwiya Il Misriya (Egyptian Air Force). The Foreign Military Sale (FMS) contract is valued at USD 426 million.
In May 2022, Scramble Magazine reported on the US State Department approval of a possible sale to the Government of Egypt of 23 CH-47F Chinooks and related equipment for an estimated cost of USD 2,6 billion.
As for now, Egypt ordered half of the original request for the new transport helicopters to replace their current fleet of 19 CH-47Ds. It is quite possible that a follow-on order will appear in the "near" future.
The current D-model Chinooks are operated by 18 Squadron, part of 546 Air Wing and 33 Squadron/Chinook OCU and are based at Kom Awshim air base.
