In August 2022, the first Kustwacht (NLCG, Netherlands Coastguard) DHC-8 will arrive in the Netherlands. A second aircraft will follow in September.
The first aircraft, test registration C-GCFK (msn 028), has been painted in Coastguard colours. It's future registration will be PH-CGD. The second one will be registered PH-CGE (msn 038). Currently, the aircraft are being prepared and modified to DHC-8-102MPA (Maritime Patrol Aircraft) in Canada. The next step is the application of the logos and the further installation of equipment.
The MPA's are hired from ISR Support Europe for a period of ten years. After arrival in the Netherlands the NLCG will start with a number of training and test flights. The crews then make preparations for the upcoming operational deployment.
The NLCG is an independent organisation. They carry out tasks for six Ministries. As administrator, the Netherlands Ministry of Defence (MoD) is responsible for the organisation and management of the NLCG. The majority of the personnel at the Coast Guard Center are employed by the MoD.
