Egyptian Air Force active in Greece
This month the Al-Quwwat Al-Jawwiya Al-Misr (Egyptian Air Force, EAF) assists the Elliniki Aeroporia (Hellenic Air Force, HAF) in firefighting the raging widfires with two CH-47D Chinooks from 546 Air Wing, normally based at Kom Awshim (Egypt). Both Chinooks are temporary based at Elefsis (Greece).
The EAF also participated in the joint exercise “GRC EGY T15”, which took place on 10 August in an area south of Crete. The exercise was conducted in two phases, both in which training was performed in airbattles four against six fighters (Offensive Counter Air – OCA, Defensive Counter Air – DCA).
The training took place in the framework of the Military Cooperation Program (OSC) which was signed between representatives of the General Staffs of Greece and Egypt, in April 2021.
The HAF provided four F-16s from 115 Pterighe Maxis, Chania and one EMB-145H AEW&CS from 380 Mira ASEPE, while the EAF took part with four F-16D Block 52 from 292 TFW (Cairo West, Egypt), two Rafale BM from 203 TFW (Gebel el Basur, Egypt) and one E-2C AEW aircraft from 601 Air Wing (Cairo West, Egypt).
The EAF aircraft were based at Souda Airport (Crete, Greece). Throughout the exercise, the E-2C operated within Cairo FIR.
