Russia Ka 27 crash 640Fatal Kamov Ka-27 accident in Kamchatka

A Kamov Ka-27 helicopter disappeared on 23 September 2021 at about 20:30 hrs Moscow time in the mountainous area in the Russian Far East.

According to preliminary information, the Ka-27PS with serial RF-19590 (construction number 5235004686602) was operated by the Russian Federalnaja sloezjba bezopasnosti (FSB, Federal Security Service) Border Guard Service, 5th OAO (ОТДЕЛЬНЫЙ АВИАЦИОННЫЙ ОТРЯД, separate aircraft squadron) at the 7060 AvB MA (7060th Naval Aviation Air Base) in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy/Yelizovo. At the time of the accident it was performing a training flight with three people on board.

One day later, the wreckage of the helicopter was located by a Mi-171 operated by the Emergency Aviation Service (EAS) at an altitude of 950 m above sea level on the slope of Mount Ostraya, five kilometres from the village of Sosnovka in the Elizovsky municipal district of Kamchatka Territory.

The EAS has informed the TASS press agency that the crew did not survive. The ground rescue teams have not yet reached the scene of the crash as the terrain is very steep and difficult to access.
