Final flight for VRC-30 Greyhound
On 20 September 2023, US Navy's Fleet Tactical Support Squadron (VRC) 30 Providers ('RW-xx') conducted their final take-off from Naval Air Station North Island (CA) with the venerable Grumman C-2A Greyhound. The aircraft, BuNo 162178/36, performed several fly pasts over the base before final touchdown.
The official sundown ceremony for VRC-30 is scheduled for 13 October 2023 and the squadron will be deactivated on. 8 December 2023.
VRC-30's task has been taken over by Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30 Titans ('DC-xx') operating the CMV-22B Osprey, also based at North Island. As from 30 September 2023, VRC-30 Det.5 at Iwakuni (Japan) will be controlled by VRC-40.
VRC-30 was commissioned in 1966, redesignated to Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VRC) 30 in 1978, and the squadron began flying the C-2A Greyhound in 1981.
